2010 All Nations CPx – Cape Town, South Africa

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is CPx?

CPx is about 5 months long, three months of teaching and two months of outreach, and then ten days of evaluations and debriefing. The time periods may be adjusted by a week or two each year.
CPx starts every year the first full weekend in February and runs till the end of June. The start date for 2010 is February 5-7. You can arrive any time that weekend but must be here no later than the afternoon of the 7th.
CPx 2010 officially ends July 1st. For those who join All Nations at the end of CPx there is a 3-5 day orientation for new members immediately following CPx. If you are planning on joining All Nations you will be required to participate in the new member orientation. Those dates for 2010 are June 30th through July 4th

What is the curriculum for the three months of training?

The curriculum covers the following three core values of All Nations:
  • Loving God – the father’s love, our identity in Christ, and nurturing a passionate daily relationship with Jesus.
  • Loving others who follow Jesus – simple church, community, team, leadership, submission, conflict resolution, forgiveness, servanthood, and being a disciple maker.
  • Loving those who don’t know Jesus – intercultural mission, sharing Christ with people of other faiths, holistic approaches to winning and gathering and reproducing disciples for Jesus, starting small, simple, easily reproducible communities.

The curriculum also focuses on intercultural skills and attitudes, including the following five practices:
  • Pray – personal prayer, team prayer, loving people through prayer, developing strategies through prayer, hearing God’s voice for specific direction to reach people, discerning God’s unfulfilled promises for a people or place, praying with non-believers for salvation.
  • Meet – how and why to meet lots of people, meet needs without being paternalistic, story telling, serving with the poor, dependency issues, relief and development, job creation, etc.
  • Make disciples –starting to make disciples before people come to faith in Christ, disciple one to one, - selecting a few, discerning who leaders are and how to develop them, teaching the commands of Christ, sharing the God story
  • Gather – learning gathering strategies, how to fit in with the culture, gathering as a way of building community, preparing for a new simple church to be started before people come to faith in Christ
  • Multiply – why and how to give birth to a church planting movement, how to be a coach without creating dependency

The curriculum also helps students think through what church is, how to do simple church, and to how to help new believers discover church without imitating the culture of the church planter.

What happens after the three months of teaching?

Students go on outreach after the teaching phase of CPx. Students are given several options for going on out-reach to other countries or they may stay in Cape Town to work in one of the four townships where All Nations is working. Exact locations will be announced at the beginning of CPx. Student fees must be paid in full to participate in the outreach and graduate. A few scholarships are available for students from developing countries.

After two months of outreach there will be ten days of debriefing and evaluations back in Cape Town.

What happens once a person finishes the full six months of CPx?

Students will have the option to stay on after CPx to do an internship with All Nations or apply to become full time staff members of All Nations. The application process for these two possibilities will begin during the teaching phase of CPx.

What opportunities are there to help with HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention programs?

Students will have the opportunity to serve at Living Hope, a partner ministry that does awareness, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS patients. Living Hope is a Christian center doing a wonderful work in the townships where All Nations works.

How many students are there on average?

On average there are between 40 to 50 students.

What is the average age of a student?

25 years of age is average, but there are many who attend who are over fifty and seeking God’s direction for a “second” career in missions.

What is the cost?

We have sought to respond to the economic differences of our students through a sliding scale depending on average income levels of the nation the students are from. We have found this to be the fairest way to address economic differences.

We base our charges for CPx on our budgeted expenses and by taking into consideration the national average Per Capita Income (PCI) of 215 countries and territories.

These countries are assigned to one of three categories based on the PCI. (Per capita income) They are:

Category A – Countries or territories with a PCI between US $0 – US $4,000.

Category B – Countries or territories with a PCI between US $4,000 - $10,000

Category C – Countries or territories with a PCI of more than US $10,000

REFUND POLICY

All Nations recognizes that there may be unexpected and extenuating circumstances where an individual might need to leave CPx before completion of the 6-month training session.  Obviously, it is not a desirable situation for all parties involved.  There is an impact on the logistical preparation (reserving a place as a student can prevent another student from attending), the relational aspect of a developing community (house churches develop at the beginning as they share life together in a meaningful way), and the original desire for the individual to fully benefit from the Church Planting Experience.  Nevertheless, we feel it is important to clarify our refund policy should that situation ever occur.  The following guidelines are the refund policy for All Nations CPx in Cape Town:

If an individual leaves CPx within 2 weeks of the start date of CPx, that individual will receive a refund of 80% of total fee amount, minus R5,000.00 deposit

If an individual leaves CPx within 1 month after the start date of CPx, that individual will receive 60% of total fees refunded minus the R5,000.00 deposit.

If an individual elects to leave CPx within 2 months after the start date of CPx, that individual will receive 40% of total fees refunded minus the R5,000.00 deposit

After the first two months there is no refund.
