Ten Questions to Ponder for 2010

from Floyd on January 10, 2010 – Print this post
Check out these ten questions to ponder as you enter 2010.:
  1. What's one way you could utilize time to increase your enjoyment of God?
  2. What's the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
  3. What's the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year?
  4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it?
  5. Who are three people you can disciple more intentionally?
  6. What is the most helpful way you can build community with a few other followers of Jesus this year?
  7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year?
  8. Who is the person you most want to encourage this year?
  9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?
  10. What single thing can you plan to do this year that will matter most in ten years? In eternity?

Wow, this is good stuff!!
Floyd, unless you stop me, I will be piggy-backing off your 10 q's quite a bit!
-already posted it on my blog: www.vanderbylblog.blogspot.com & plan to send it to a number of people who will benefit from it.
As we continue our ministry with the Navigators @ University of Western Cape, I will continue to bear these q's in mind & ask them to our key guys.
I thank God for you!!
Be Blessed!!!

Thanks for the ten questions, all are excellent and appreciated. I will take them to the one who knows everything and has all the answers, they have the mark of spirit and true and the sweet taste of divine wisdom promised.

The best leaders are those who follow the best leaders who follow the best leader of leaders, the all knowing one, who know everything and understands what he knows perfectly, who said " I am the way ".

Blessing on your life big brother.

Thank you for posting these thoughts. I had made a list of 'issues' I am believing God for breakthrough in 2010. However in most of these areas my statements were very vague/grandiose...but your questions really helped me to break down some of my goals into more bite-sized 'thoughts'. I am going to copy the questions and print it out for more serious contemplation.

PS I am a member of Living Hope church in Hamilton, ON. I didn't make the mission trip last year to Capetown, but I have really enjoyed being able to participate in what is going on there: through praying, giving and facebook/email updates. Thanks for allowing so many people to be a part of your journey!

God bless,

Rachael J. DeBruin and family :)

Interesting questions......the "goals and intentionality" approach to life is certainly very appealing!
And yet......these questions provoke more ??'s
How could I ever presume to know what would "matter most in years? in eternity? I have a hunch God alone decides!
I am learning to live with an OPEN HEART rather than by my goals and principles.
The way of vulnerability to the fluctuating nuances of the Spirit's invitations moment by moment is way more challenging to me than creating my list of honorable intentions and asking God for grace to fulfil them! I used to live this way and realized that I was perceiving the promptings of the Spirit as "interruptions" to the fulfilment of the goals rather that invitations to transformation and expansion of my heart to sacrificial LOVE required in the moment.

It is the way of SURRENDER and death to my goals and desires that i find is the way to allowing the Holy Spirit to have His way in and through me.

This alignment of my will to respond to His desires and promptings moment by moment allow Him to the freedom to operate to glorify His name. I become the one humbled by His jealous ownership and confronted with the disparity in my own heart at times when the call for obedient alignment cause resistance in me!

I have dreams and goals and use lists but have learned to be on the alert to the sneaky "PRIDE of principled living" ... believing He call us to ever increasing levels of UTTER dependence and weakness through which His strength is revealed! HELP Lord!

Hi Floyd & Sally,

I sat down with a pen & paper and answered each question in ink. I was really surprised by my answers and the insight it brought into my life. Thanks for sending these questions!

On our flight home from the USA I sat beside a young man who was coming to work with your ministry for a few weeks! How awesome it was to run into them and hear a bit of what you are doing.

Blessings,

Cheree Shenk

Dear Floyd and Sally, these questions where sent to me by a friend, after I had posted this "NEED SOMETHING POSITIVE CHRISTIAN TODO THIS YEAR! ANY GOOD SUGGESTIONS, PROPOSALS, IDEAS?" on my Facebook. I have been lost in finding God, myself and purpose in live for sometime now. Even after reading the questions to ponder on nothing rings a bell. Once I had a purpose, dreams, a family, a church, a home. I lost all that, because of my sin. I have repentend, i have ask God to forgive me, I asked the people that got hurt and sinned agains to forgive me. I don't want to go back, cannot go back, but I long for purpose. I sit in a little room at my laptop eachday, trying hard, praying hard to find purpose again, something to do that had eternal value but it is not there. I have been depressed and don't want to go back being depressed. I miss God, my family, church and so much, I don't want to let another year go by again with out purpose.

Great questions Floyd! You always get us thinking about what is most important: God, others, the lost.

I also came across a great quote: "We often overestimate what we can achieve in one year, but we easily underestimate what we can achieve in ten years." (I think it was by Jack Hayford). Gets you think about what matters most, like your questions.

God Bless

Floyd, another killer 10 questions. Where do you get all these? Can I pass them on, if I give credit to the source?

I know Judy is looking forward to being with you in a couple of weeks in Cleveland.

Blessings, Jim
